On March 22, World Water Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the importance of freshwater and advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. The first World Water Day was recommended in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, and it was celebrated in 1993.
